Lisa, I absolutely love looking at your photos. It is so different there from the typical sites you see around here. Even the candy. Most Americans I know can't stand marzipan. They think it looks cute and tastes awful. And I've never had an aniseed ball. I do love any licorice flavor thing though.
For some reason it is a cultural thing that many people don't like marzipan. It is funny. My friends in Italy love it too. You are so sweet to send the aniseed! I will email my address to you.
nicole do send me your address, it'd be fun to post you some sweets! yes it may be a european thing with marzipan, or maybe they only have the bright yellow plastercine stuff in the US which is really rotten - the real stuff is white and crumbly... mmm mmm...
casey i HAVE eaten it until i WAS sick, i used to live in Seville and at christmas they sell little marzipan fruit... i ate about 50 in a row... it wasn't pretty! My fav type of marzipan is in Italy though where they have balls of it dipped in chocolate...
